MHPSS Volunteers (10 Positions)

About the Program

The Comprehensive Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Program is dedicated to addressing the psychological and emotional needs of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), affected by emergencies and conflicts. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between mental health services and the individuals who need them the most. By combining targeted outreach activities, in-depth studies, early access to treatment, and capacity building, this initiative aims to create a supportive environment where individuals affected by crises can receive the help they need to heal and thrive

Program Components:

1. Outreach Activities: Engage with the community through meetings, awareness campaigns, and stakeholder collaboration to understand and address mental health needs.

2. Data Collection: Use field surveys and needs assessments to gather data on mental health status and community dynamics.

3. Early Access: Provide psychological first aid, counseling services, and establish a referral system for specialized care.

4. Support Services: Conduct psychoeducation, facilitate support groups, and organize therapeutic activities to promote mental well-being.

Role Overview:

We are seeking passionate and committed volunteers to join our MHPSS team. As an MHPSS Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in providing mental health and psychosocial counselling to the IDPs community. You will work directly with affected individuals, helping them cope with the psychological and emotional impacts of their experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support and Counseling: Provide psychological first aid and basic counseling to individuals in need.

• Community Outreach: Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about mental health issues and available services.

• Case Management: Assist in the identification and referral of individuals requiring specialized mental health services.

• Group Activities: Facilitate group sessions and community activities aimed at promoting mental well-being.

• Field Surveys: Conduct comprehensive field surveys to gather data on mental health conditions and related factors.

• Training and Capacity Building: Participate in training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge in MHPSS.

Requirements:

• Background: A background in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field is preferred.

• Experience: Previous experience in mental health, psychosocial support and counselling, or humanitarian work is an advantage.

• Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.

• Adaptability: Ability to work in challenging and dynamic environments.

• Language: Proficiency in Somali and/or English.
